Wisconsin Dells. May 5 & 6

At Witch's Gultch
A quick early get away from the hustle and bustle of Chicago up the interstate to the Wisconsin Dells. The area is mostly a big tourist town but the natural areas outside of town are quite nice.  We camped for two nights at Mirror Lake State  right on Mirror Lake.  The weather while chilly is finally sunny.  There have been over night frosts so we are quite happy to have our trusty gas heater to turn on in the morning.
We took the obligatory Dells boat tour and it was scenic and lovely.  We left the boat twice, once to hike into a canyon with 100 ft walls and not much space between.  The second excursion was to watch a dog jump from one rock outcropping to another about five feet away but 75 feet high.  Mildly interesting!  We did some hiking and geocaching, for those not familiar with geocaching it is one more way to waste time outside, which we are good at.  Capped the day with Old Fashions at the Ishnala Supper Club and great views of the lake from a historic property.
On the road in the morning with 750 miles until The Badlands, lots of miles to get out West.

  1. I never heard of the Wisconsin Dells before, but the photos are quite dramatic!

A Slight Reprieve

The sun came back just long enough for one more night of camping.  A beautiful campground on Bishop Lake, Brighton, MI
